Ice Karting

That's right - if you didn't think ordinary go-karting was hard enough already, we've now gone and experienced doing it on ice as well. For those who had plentiful previous form in normal tarmac-bound karts, this little twist turned out to be something of a pitfall, as it changed not only the amount of grip, and the expected racing line throughout the event - but the handling characteristics of the karts themselves…

OMC Autosolo at Silverstone

Ding Boston collected me and Nick Podusca at 8.15am from Gipsy Lane and we set off for Silverstone at Ding’s usual rate of progress…arriving at the event at around 8.40am in the TOYO Golf GTi. Ding was still smarting from a 2010 rule change he hadn’t been aware of until Friday – that the beloved TOYO 888’s were no longer eligible. Somehow, he had managed to borrow a set of wheels and tyres in the course of Saturday – and they got a serious test session on the way.

12 Car Road Rally - Cotswold Motor Sports Group Championship - Round 5

This CMSG event was my first road rally and the first time James Thomas had navigated - but not quite the first for Ding Boston, our driver... The car we were in was the venerable TOYO Golf Mk2 Gti with the centrally mounted racing bucket seat and full harness in the back – which was my perch for the evening, and a most suitable car for the event.

Woodbridge Gymkhana

Alan Coombs and I arrived at Woodbridge Aerodrome at 7am, but as we didn’t know each other (and so didn’t recognise each other) we lurked around waiting for Ding, who arrived fashionably late at 8.30am -having scoured the area for a petrol station that was open. There were 48 cars but some drivers and navigators swapped positions to co-drive, so there were about 53 entries in total. Everyone got signed in, and while Ding placed TOYO, NGK, Phillips Tyres and Barbados Rally banners on and round the TOYO Golf, the car lost its radio to make way for the rally clock. Even electronics wizard Alan found this difficult to fit – without tools! - so who knows if the radio will ever work again?!
