February 7th: More Riley Progress!

The fizz was broken open on Sunday when the Riley repairs were crowned with the application of the final Birch Grey Lesonal top coat over the bulletproof Rustbuster Epoxy Mastic - providing a concours canvas for all the revamped running gear and ancillaries that have been lovingly prepared, and can now be fitted back on the car. All those involved deserve a huge round of applause for what has been achieved over the past 12 weeks.
However, we have a huge challenge in front of us now...Can we rebuild everything back into the car in time for its scheduled exhibition to the industry, the public and our supporters on our big stand at the International Historic Race Retro Show – at Stoneleigh Park in just over two weeks?! Make a date to visit our stand in Hall 3 and find out!!!
February 5th: OUMF gains yet more support!
We are delighted to be able to add yet more names to our ever growing list of supporters:
Paul Johnson, whose donation of Mk2 Golf Gti parts will help sustain the OUMF Golf trainer which has a hard life being out on 12 Car navigational rallies almost every week during the season.
Gosnays Engineering Co Ltd - Adrian Wilkes
Gosnays Engineering in Romford have very kindly offered to carry out the engine machining work required for the Riley 1.5 project that will allow the team to compete with it again in this years HRDC 'Touring Greats' series, including line boring the block and reboring it to enable them to fit the new forged JE pistons generously donated by the distributors, PMi Europe.
G&S Valves Ltd - Andrew Grenside and Race Engine Components Ltd - Paul Ivey
REM Ltd and G&S Valves have kindly supported the Riley engine building project with a donation of the larger valves and the guides needed.
GAZ Shocks
We are grateful to Gaz Shocks who have found us a set of their excellent dampers to help the OUMF Golf Gti rally training car handle at its best.
Vibra Technics
Vibra Technics have given the OUMF team a pair of their renowned engine mounts for the Riley rebuild project - and a great deal of excellent advice about oten misunderstood and underestimated aspect of vehicle presparation.

December 16th: CMSG 12 Car Rally
Congratulations to Joe Sturdy and Briony Smith for bring the TOYO Golf home in 6th place in the last round of the Cotswold Motorsports Group championship of 2011 last Friday. They did extremely well - in unfamiliar territory and in adverse weather conditions, with snow lying on many high sections.
December 9th: OMC 12 Car Rally
Rob Mason did a cracking job guiding the TOYO Golf to 6th position in unpredictable weather conditions, ably assisted by David Waters in the rear race seat. Had no less than 5 codeboards not been missed, the result would have been a triumph - with the route being covered very quickly and accurately with no deviations from the course, and little time lost.
December 7th: MASS Engines Visit
This proved to be another fascinating day of learning and revelation at this highly respected engineering company, with John Wright generously giving us his time to teach, and demonstrating yet again why he is held in such high regard throughout the industry.
Our optimism that the Riley engine needed only the lightest refreshment was soon dampened when his careful inspection revealed that the camshaft and related gear was worn and close to failure, and one of the exhaust valves was beginning to recede. While the news was a rather unpleasant surprise, we must be very grateful that this was spotted now and can be addressed - before a much more expensive and possibly catastrophic failure occurred.
Good progress was also made on the Alfa engine with all the liners, pistons, crank, flywheel and the block found to be in good condition.
We have very kindly been invited back for another visit to MASS soon after Christmas to install the new parts and build up both engines.
December 3rd: The Preston Rally

After over 10 hours driving, the OUMF Corsa was denied an almost certain 12th place Overall - just before the final stage - by a (another!!!) snapped front ball joint. Sad that it ended that way, but the team had a great adventure in the process.

October 25th: CMSG Rally triumph
The TOYO Golf stormed Round 6 of the CMSG Championship on Friday night, with Zip Zerihan and Briony Smith guiding the car to 2nd Place overall and Ist in Class on a superb route around the Cotswolds. Very well done to both of them. Achieving this result on TOYO 888's on the switchback of autumnal wooded lanes (that saw 2 Minis, a Rover 214i and even a Subaru make 'unplanned excursions') was a great endorsement of their capabilities. Sadly Matt Tomkins and Richard Crozier - on Matt's first ever outing in his Morris Minor - retired with a suspected hole in the sump after attempting a very rough 'off route' farm track by mistake. Fortunately it was only dented, and they were able to continue driving the car.
October 14th: OUMF Rally Victory!
OUMF scored its first ever clean sweep on Friday night, with Richard Crozier taking the Expert, Joe Sturdy and Briony Smith taking the Novice class, and Victoria Bayliss taking the Beginners Class - and outright victory too! (Victoria only turned up to help Marshal!!) It was the first ever event for both Briony and Victoria, so on top of all the excitement of the event, winning was extra sweet. Briony has promised to regale us with the full story in her recollections later this week...
